Semaglutide

Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, headacheSerious Adverse Events:

  • Pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain radiating to back)
  • Thyroid tumors/cancer (neck lumps, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing)
  • Kidney problems/failure
  • Severe allergic reactions (swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Diabetic retinopathy complications
  • Severe hypoglycemia when combined with insulin/sulfonylureas

Tirzepatide

Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, constipation, indigestionSerious Adverse Events:

  • Acute pancreatitis
  • Medullary thyroid carcinoma
  • Acute kidney injury
  • Severe gastrointestinal disease
  • Hypoglycemia (especially with other diabetes medications)
